I love Canon cameras because they give you the best quality ever, that is one feature that almost all Canon digital camera models have in common, of course some are better than the others but they are all great. The camera offer 12X optical zoom which is great for its size, with image stabilization and image resolution of 12 MP (Megapixels). For beginners and anyone who wants to use a simple point & shoot camera there are basic modes for different situations, even professionals use these auto modes to catch a photo quickly. There is a full Auto mode,a portrait mode, landscape, night snapshots, kids & pets, indoors and easy modes.

There is Manual focusing and exposure, Aperture Priority and Shutter Priority modes and a full manual mode where you can control shutter speed and aperture, manual focusing, etc.

Also you can choose to automatically adjust the color balance (AWB: Auto White Balance) or choose a custom one like day light, fluorescent, cloudy, etc according to the conditions of lighting in the scene.

The LCD scree and the size of the camera

The camera has a wide 3" LCD that works pretty good. There is no viewfinder which may be a bad thing for professionals who are used to it but it is not a major problem with most of us. The size of the camera is much more smaller than DSLR cameras "it is considered a compact camera" but is larger than the ultra slim cameras. The larger the camera, the larger the sensor and the better the image quality.

So the size of the camera is average, it can fit into many pockets but It is not very small like the IXUS 95 for example. In fact, with all the options and controls in this camera, it would be difficult to use if they made it smaller, so i think the size is great.

Video

The camera can shoot in HD with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels, this is great news for everyone and I really like the results I'm getting from this camera regarding both photos and video. Unfortunately, you can't use the optical zoom DURING recording but instead, you can zoom in before you start recording your video. You can use digital zooming during shooting the video. Anyway, I think this is a minor flaw and people are not really complaining about it this much because hey, it is not a camcoder after all, it is a digital camera. Of course it would have been better if i could zoom during video but how frequent you will really need to do that?
