I'll try to put some photos from Egypt, my beautiful home! You may not find the usual "Egypt" photos that have the camels, the pyramids, etc because these are just so many and this is only one aspect of life in Egypt.
All the photos in this article are taken by me (Motaz) and should NOT be used without my permission, all rights are reserved. Please don't use these images on any prints, website or blog. I'm not a professional photographer but I like capturing life and special moments in photos. I hope these photos can show you some beautiful places in Egypt that are not always known to many visitors.

The photo to the right is a very well known place in old Cairo, it is the Mosque of Mohamed ali inside the famous Salah El-Din Citadel which was built many years ago to defend Cairo against the crusades. The mosque is amazing from inside and the citadel has many historical buildings and museums. It is a famous tourist attraction and a place you should definitely see.

The above photo is from the inside of the Mosque of Amr Ibn Al-As which was built about 800 years ago. There are other mosques in this area, which is referred to as "old Cairo" or "Fatimid Cairo". The mosque is active and prayers are held in it, it is open for tourists and visitors between prayer times. This wasn't just the first mosque built in Egypt but in Africa!

Old mosques, buildings and streets are really amazing and eye catching in Cairo. The Islamic architecture, monuments and calligraphy are just pure art. Another interesting place is "Al Moez Street". Below are some photos from El Moez Street during a quick trip:

El Moez Street photos

A trip within this area would take a few hours and you will discover many many monuments, old buildings and mosques, built hundreds of years ago like Al Aqmar Mosque, The Blue Mosque, the Dome, Hospital & School of Qalawoon (most of the buildings were named after Muslim Caliphs during the Memalik, Ayyubi's, Fatimid and other periods in Cairo's history. This is one of the places you can't miss! Enjoy the atmosphere!
You can enter many of these historical buildings and take photos of most of them. Enjoy the architecture, the great structures and inscriptions and calligraphy on the walls. Please click the thumbnails to see more photos.

Photos from Egypt: The countryside

The countryside in Egypt is just refreshing and there are many nice places to see. It is as clean as the Europian countryside maybe but you are just visiting and enjoying the green color, the more primitive lifestyle, the simplicity of life! You probably can't go there on your own so you better take a guide or an Egyptian friends with to avoid getting lost. I'll put more pictures of the Egyptian countryside soon.

Feasts and Festivals

Feasts and festivals in Egypt are vivid, rich and new experiences. Not everyone celebrate Christmas and Valentine but everyone celebrates the 2 Muslim feasts: Al Fitr and Al Adha feasts. Other celebrations include national days, 6th of October, workers day, and other celebrations. During both Islamic feasts families celebrate, give to the poor and slaughter sheep or cows during Al-Adha feast as a commemoration of prophet Abraham’s readiness to sacrifice his son to show obedience to Allah.

Beautiful photos. I enjoyed seeing a different view of Egypt than the one we usually get. I always wanted to go there and see the pyramids but now I see that there is much much more than that, probably even prettier than the traditional views.
